Expansion of existing Technology
(Claims for wound closure rates)
The existing Standard of Care for wounds calls for use of a dressing that would maintain a moist environment and provide a barrier from the external environment. The wound care industry today is very fragmented and there are no standards of care with respect to outcomes. A myriad of products are used in a variety of settings including hospitals, nursing home, burn units, home health care by a nurse, care by the family as well as self care by the patient. In United States, there are more that 5 million non-healing chronic wounds, which result in 80,000 amputations per year in diabetic patients alone. Statistics are staggering and still there is no product that would guarantee healing of wounds.
The primary reason for lack of products without claims is that there are no products in the market that can provide the patients a certain outcome. Even if there was a product in the market with superior healing rates, there are no accepted protocols that could be used for obtaining advanced wound healing claims.
Human BioSciences has developed proprietary methods that can compare wound care products at laboratory (cellular), tissue and clinical level. In addition, Human BioSciences has identified certain markers which come into play at different stages of wound healing and could be used as identifiers of progress in wound closure. Human BioSciences’s proprietary products and methods will allow it to obtain claims on wound closure. A claim on wound closure would establish Human BioSciences's products as a new standard for treatment of wounds.
